Starting Strong: Your First 90 Days in Student Ministry

Your first job is not to prove yourself. Your first job is to understand what God has entrusted to you. Use this guide to learn the church, build trust, strengthen rhythms, and lead the next faithful step.

01

Days 1-30: Listen and learn

Become a student of the ministry before you become its architect. Learn the story of the church, the heart of its leadership, and the names and rhythms of its people.

  • Meet with your supervisor, volunteers, and parents.
  • Review the systems already carrying the work.
  • Ask what has worked, what has hurt, and what people are afraid of losing.
02

Days 31-60: Build trust and rhythm

Make the ministry healthier before making it bigger. Choose clear rhythms that help leaders, parents, and students know what to expect and how to respond.

  • Establish a weekly volunteer update.
  • Create a simple new-student follow-up path.
  • Improve one weak system instead of launching five new ideas.
03

Days 61-90: Lead with clarity

Translate the church's mission into a student ministry direction, then choose a few meaningful changes with care and communicate them clearly.

  • Name how students are discipled.
  • Use a keep, strengthen, change framework.
  • Build leaders instead of dependence.
04

Play the long game

Healthy student ministry is built through consistency, trust, prayer, repeated conversations, leader development, parent partnership, faithful teaching, and sustainable systems.

  • Measure stories as well as attendance.
  • Lead the conversation students need right now.
  • Stay close to Jesus as you care for students.
MAKE IT YOUR OWN

Use this as a starting point, then shape it around the students and leaders God has entrusted to you.
