Student Ministry Theology Basics

Student leaders do not need to have every answer immediately. They do need to stay grounded, teachable, prayerful, and ready to point students toward biblical truth.

01

Keep Scripture central

The Bible is the source that forms the ministry's convictions, not a supporting detail after culture, trends, or personal opinion have spoken.

  • Return students to what Scripture says.
  • Read passages in context.
  • Let truth shape both the message and the ministry culture.
02

Point clearly to Jesus

A student ministry should keep Jesus at the center: His life, death, resurrection, grace, and invitation to follow Him. Every topic should lead somewhere deeper than a relevant idea.

  • Explain salvation as grace received through faith.
  • Talk honestly about repentance as turning toward God.
  • Teach that the Spirit empowers growth and godly living.
03

Answer questions with humility

Honest leadership creates room for students to ask real questions without pretending to have a quick answer for everything.

  • Say, 'I do not know, but I will help us find out.'
  • Seek Scripture, wise counsel, and follow-up.
  • Never fake spiritual authority or make students feel small for asking.
MAKE IT YOUR OWN

Use this as a starting point, then shape it around the students and leaders God has entrusted to you.
